At EICMA, Milan, the Austrian sports motorcycle manufacturer KTM, has presented its 2009 motorcycle model range to the international media and motorcycle enthusiasts.

2009 KTM 1190 RC8 R

The newly developed 1190 RC8 R is the motor sports-oriented variation of the 1190 RC8. The 1190 RC8 R has an 1195cc two-cylinder 4-stroke engine and produces 165hp and 123 nm of torque. KTM has also made an optional sport kit available for the 1190 RC8 R, that enhances the engine performance to 180 hp to produce the most powerful KTM series model of all times.

High quality equipment like forged light alloy wheels and suspension components specially developed for motorsports use, compress the weight and sharpen the lap time potential of the 1190 RC8 R. The Superbike, with the characteristic orange-colored tubular steel frame, will be available from the spring of 2009 and therefore just in time for the new motor racing season.

2009 KTM 990 Supermoto T

The new 990 Supermoto T also comes with significantly sporty characteristics but at the same time there has never been such versatility concerning a targeted application. The new 990 Supermoto T is a product that enriches the market with the first ever Supermoto suitable for extended touring. The result is unlimited riding fun even on longer or touring stretches and that is the clear message of this new street bike also available from the spring of 2009.

Based on the 990 Supermoto, that was successfully introduced at the beginning of 2008, the 115 hp strong Travel Version features a modified chassis construction for increased use application – among which is the efficient, newly designed cladding with integrated multifunctional cockpit. Thanks to consequent development work and despite the equipment that makes it suitable for long distance use, the KTM technicians have still managed to keep the ready to ride weight of the 990 Supermoto T under the magic 200 kilo limit.

2009 KTM 990 Supermoto R

As an overall expression of the KTM model philosophy and as a signal of the clear market leadership in the Supermoto area, the new 990 Supermoto R is both the apex of the SM family and it’s most sporty example.

2009 KTM 990 Adventure S

To preserve its reputation as the most active manufacturer of sports motorcycles, the brand is also present with other innovations in the form of successful, added value Adventure models and the purist, sports 690 Enduro R. Whereas the Hard Enduro, powered by the highly praised LC4 engine demonstrates the entire sporting know-how of the world’s leading brand of sports motorcycles, the much loved LC8-two cylinder travel Enduros come with more power and improved equipment in 2009. The sporting and optical highlights are unmistakable in the KTM-typical R optics of the specially kitted out Adventure R. Around 20 percent more powerful than its successful pioneer, the 990 Adventure S, the “R” from 2009, and only available without ABS, gives sports-oriented two-wheel adventurers 115 hp at their disposal while the 990 Adventure with power increased to 106 hp.

For the 2009 the Multistrada is available in two versions: the impressive Multistrada 1100 finished in red and, for those who demand ‘S’ version sport performance, the Multistrada 1100 S in red, black or in the new pearl white color.

Ducati Multistrada 1100

The Multistrada 1100 widens the horizons of all those who are ‘sport motorcyclists’ at heart but still want a bike they can use seven days a week. Riding a Multistrada makes every road a thrill. The punchy 1100 Desmo L-Twin engine with smoother, more tractable power, coupled with a refined chassis, delivers confident handling and optimal comfort, even over long distances.

The unmistakable Ducati Trellis frame combines with a fully-adjustable suspension that allows the rider to adapt the bike for any road condition and every riding style.

Superb road holding, a powerful 1100 engine and all day comfort gives the versatile Multistrada a unique personality and true Ducati character.

Multistrada 1100 Chassis

The renowned Multistrada chassis guarantees exceptional stability at speed, as well as fantastic agility through fast bends. It enables expert riders to find it easy to achieve blistering performance with the 1100.

The Trellis frame is made from high quality steel (ALS 450) for maximum rigidity and precise directional control.

The fully adjustable suspension of the Multistrada 1100 features upside-down 43mm Showa forks adjustable in compression and rebound damping as well as spring preload. The Sachs rear monoshock is equipped with a practical hydraulic remote control to adjust spring preload, which operates through Ducati’s rising rate linkages.

The Multistrada is equipped with an exceptional braking system; two 320mm semi-floating discs at the front wheel with two 4-piston Brembo calipers, while rear stopping power is provided by a single 245mm disc with a Brembo 2-piston caliper.

Multistrada 1100 Engine

The Multistrada is equipped with the renowned Desmodue air-cooled twin-cylinder engine. For this model the Ducati 1100 Dual Spark has a displacement of 1078cc which offers exceptional torque and excellent reliability.

This engine offers a power output of 95hp at 7750rpm and 10,5kgm (76lb-ft) of torque at 4750rpm. Contributing to the bike’s rideability and powerful mid-range, this modern air-cooled engine highlights the sporting character of the Multistrada 1100.
The engine has been designed to comply with Euro 3 standards while boosting performance.

Compact and powerful the1100 Dual Spark Desmo engine is the result of decades of experience and a whole series of innovations that extend from the combustion chambers to the crankshaft.

The Dual Spark ignition on the Multistrada 1100 optimizes combustion temperatures, increases maximum power and torque throughout rpm range, enhances reliability and reduces fuel consumption. These features combine to make the Multistrada Euro 3 compliant.
The 1100 Dual Spark engine also features a ‘wet’ clutch which provides a lighter lever action, is quieter than a dry clutch, and characterised by having exceptional wear-resistance.

Thanks to an excellent compromise between performance, reliability, noise and lever effort, this clutch is ideal for sport riding while ensuring a more progressive action and feel.

Ducati Multistrada 1100 S

Thanks to its world-class suspension and componentry, the “S” version is for riders who demand the ultimate in sports performance. It is based on the Multistrada 1100, but features a number of components derived from the Ducati Superbikes, including fully-adjustable Öhlins suspension and carbon fibre components.

The Multistrada 1100 S highlights the sporting character of a model whose main feature is versatility.

The 1100 S features a number of racing components including a front fender and cam belt covers in carbon fibre, as well as tapered alloy handlebars which are fitted with vibration isolating mounts. The prestigious Öhlins suspension, derived from the Ducati Superbikes, deliver superior road handling as well as an exclusive quality finish.
This top-of-the-range model now features the new livery of pearl white with racing grey frame and engine outer casings with a carbon grey finish.

Multistrada 1100 S Chassis

It is the chassis that has given the Ducati Multistrada its extreme versatility and all-round performance. The Multistrada 1100 S earns its ‘S’ status by adding sophisticated suspension and a sporting set-up to an already high performance motorcycle. It provides true Superbike performance and is capable of lightning-quick cornering and extreme riding precision.

At the front, 43mm Öhlins forks with low friction TiN fork sliders, fully adjustable and complemented by a fully adjustable Öhlins rear shock with remote preload adjuster for Superbike-class road holding.

Bajaj Auto is planning to launch XCD Sprint DTS-i in December. Bajaj Auto had displayed XCD Sprint DTS-i at the 2008 AutoExpo held in New Delhi in January.

Powered by a four valve 125cc 4-stroke air cooled DTS-i engine, XCD Sprint DTS-i is expected to produce a whopping 12.5bhp of max power and 10.3Nm of torque from its little heart. This would make XCD Sprint the most powerful 125cc motorcycle in India and more powerful than what 150cc motorcycles used to be 5 years ago!

Would this be enough to upstage the recent spur in popularity of Honda CBF Stunner?

A real, live runway, as those used during the Milan fashion week, set the scene for the entrance of the 2009 new additions in the Bologna manufacturer’s range. These dream bikes are the result of Italian genius and creativity and will capture the attention of everyone visiting EICMA 2008, Milan’s international motorcycle show being held at the city’s international exhibition centre in Rho, from 4 to 9 November. From here they will go on to setting new standards as they arrive on the international market.

Before the 2009 models were let loose, the press was also shown the new Ducati logo, an evolution of the historic brand name, which now includes a new red shield featuring a new graphic symbol, alongside the classic Ducati script. This replaces the previous, celebrated, stylized letter ‘D’.

“Confidence and passion are the two key words for the coming year. – said Mr. Del Torchio as he opened the conference – These words are directly inspired by the results we have achieved in 2008, during which we have continued to grow, despite the shrinking markets, to the extent that our sales have increased by 25% in just two years. Our confidence and passion come from having identified a series of strategic activities that we at Ducati are working on both internally and externally, in order to offer our customers all around the world increasingly innovative, reliable and distinctive products, which are guaranteed to make their dreams come true. We are convinced that by working in this direction, as we have underlined in our company mission, we can generate a positive future for our shareholders and our customers, as ambassadors of Italian products adding prestige to our worldwide standing.

The amazing new products that we have brought to EICMA 2008 represent the fruit of our technological research and development, which Ducati expresses through its updated range, confirming how much this company is focused on the product as well as supporting and sustaining our sales targets for the next few years.”

Claudio Domenicali, General Product Manager of Ducati Motor Holding, introduced the major and eagerly awaited new Ducati products for 2009. The motorcycles made their entrance on the runway ridden by four of Ducati Corse factory racers and testers: Niccolò Canepa (Monster 1100), Michel Fabrizio (1198), Vittoriano Guareschi (Streetfighter) and the newly crowned World Superbike Champion, Troy Bayliss (1098 R Bayliss). It was a truly impressive, spectacular presentation that made the occasion even more thrilling.
The real star of the event was the new Ducati Streetfighter, which is already among the top contenders for the title “best bike of the show”.

With 155hp of awesome Ducati L-Twin muscle harnessed in a stripped-down, super-light bike that packs more punch for its weight than any other contender, this fighter is gloves-off and ready for action.

Ducati Streetfighter is also available in an “S” version equipped with Öhlins suspension, lightweight forged Marchesini wheels, carbon fiber parts and a street-going Ducati Traction Control.

For 2009, the Ducati Superbike family has two major new additions, both made absolutely special by their engine size as well as equipment and components – these are two bikes that are sure to carry on and increase the success achieved with the celebrated 1098.

The new DUCATI 1198, while maintaining the same look as the previous 1098, is in fact a totally new bike. The 1198, which produces a powerful 170hp (125kW) from its new Testastretta Evoluzione engine, and has a dry weight of just 171kg (377lb), incorporates all of the World Superbike technology derived directly from the 2008 World Championship winning race bike of Troy Bayliss.

The Ducati Data Analysis, supplied as standard equipment on the 1198 S model, enables the retrieval and analysis of data collected from a track session or road trip. The innovative road-going Ducati Traction Control (DTC) system monitors front and rear wheel speeds to detect rear wheel-spin under acceleration and electronically reduces engine power to restore traction. DTC, which offers a choice of eight settings, provides a considerable increase in safety during mid-corner acceleration.

EICMA is also the first major opportunity to celebrate the great sporting results Ducati has achieved in 2008. Second place in the MotoGP series and Superbike World Championship titles, both for riders’ and manufacturers’, thanks to the victory of Troy Bayliss - in the debut year of the 1098 F08.

After his resounding victory, Troy announced his retirement from motorcycle racing and Ducati decided to celebrate his career by producing the limited edition ‘1098 R Bayliss’, a worthy conclusion to a career during which he won three World Championship titles aboard three different generations of Ducati Superbikes.

Ducati add the new Monster 1100 and 1100 S to the 2009 range, both icons of Italian excellence. Dedicated to those who want to make the ultimate expression, this jewel of style and performance is powered by the charismatic two-valve 1100cc Desmodromic twin-cylinder engine, famous the world over for its legendary torque and acceleration.

The 2009 range is completed by the new pearl white color for the Hypermotard 1100 and Multistrada 1100 S and the new black with white stripe livery version of the GT 1000, available also in a special Touring version.

Radial Pump Clutch Master Cylinder

Hydraulic clutch features a radial-pump clutch master cylinder for smooth and precise clutch engagement and feel

Next-Generation Monocoque Aluminum Frame

Lightweight, monocoque frame is a hollow aluminum box that arches over the engine from the steering head to the swing arm pivot. It is narrow, strong, rigid and very light

Frame’s cast aluminum sections - steering head and swing arm pivot areas – are produced with a die casting process for further weight savings

Rigidly mounted engine is a stressed frame member, which increases the frame’s torsional rigidity and saves approximately four pounds

Engine positioned forward in the frame, with the wheelbase and front/rear weight balance carefully designed to achieve high-speed stability and responsive handling

Massive head pipe casting contributes to frame rigidity

Frame houses the air box and air filter in a space-saving design that simplifies air cleaner maintenance

Battery is also housed within the frame and has simple access through the back side of the frame

Suspension

Inverted 43mm cartridge type front fork utilizes damping rates that offer stiff initial action to resist front-end dive when braking

Stepless damping adjustment improves suspension performance

Excellent control and feedback from fully adjustable bottom-link Uni-Trak® rear suspension

Linkage rates provide linear suspension action

Bottom-link design concentrates helps create a lower center of gravity, which makes the motorcycle more nimble

Wheel rim center ribs are slightly offset so tire balance weights can be located precisely along the wheel’s centerline

Radial Mounted Petal Front Disc Brakes

Radial mounted four-piston front brake calipers offer greater rigidity than traditional caliper mounting, to improve brake feel

A separate brake pad is used for each piston. Individual pads provide increased cooling efficiency and can absorb more heat without deforming, so they maintain a consistent brake feel longer

Petal design brake discs provide better cooling and warp resistance

Radial-pump front brake master cylinder improves brake performance and lever feel

Bodywork

Monocoque frame goes over the engine so the sleek fairing is uninterrupted by protruding frame spars, adding to the extremely long and low styling

Both the front and rear turn signals are integrated into the bodywork and have clear lenses to enhance the appearance

Quadruple projector beam headlights give the ZX-14 a distinctive front fairing. The outer lights contain position lamps and the high beams, while the low beams are in the center lamps

Suzuki Motorcycle had launched the all new GS150R in India on the 23rd of October (press release of the launch), it is latest entrant in the very competitive 150cc segment and brings to the table a fresh look and a new 150cc four stroke engine with six gears (the only motorcycle in India to support it after the Yamaha R15 and RD350).

Suzuki GS150R Features:

150cc Engine with a new design: The 150cc engine of GS150R has been designed with a focus on acceleration performance in the low-to-mid range speed, which is most important in city riding. This ensures that you always enjoy a smooth, comfortable ride with the new Suzuki GS150R.

Engine balancer technology: In other motorcycles, vibration generated from inside the engine by the vertical motion (inertial force) of the piston and rotating motion (centrifugal force) of the crankshaft, is transmitted through the handlebars, seat and footpegs to the rider. The engine balancer technology in Suzuki GS150R seeks to minimize such vibration in order to deliver a more comfortable riding experience. Moreover, the balancer system is quipped with balancer-driven gear fitted with a rubber damper for reducing the impact noise generated by its meshing with the balancer-driven- gear.

Honda achieved this milestone in the 60th year since the company began motorcycle production in 1949 with the Dream D-type.

The history of Honda’s motorcycle business began with the start of mass-production of the Dream D-type in 1949.

Production outside of Japan began at Honda’s motorcycle plant in Belgium in 1963, and since then Honda has been expanding its local production to many countries around the world based on Honda’s commitment to “build products close to the customer.” Honda currently produces motorcycles at 32 plants in 22 countries around the world. Moreover, Honda established local motorcycle R&D operations in the U.S., Germany, Italy, Thailand, China, and India dedicating its effort to develop motorcycles that meet the needs of local customers.

Honda’s annual worldwide motorcycle sales exceeded 10 million units in 2004, and 2007 sales reached 13.47 million units, a 7% increase from 2006. Honda envisions sales of more than 18 million units in 2010.

Casey Stoner and Nicky Hayden today took part in the first session of the two-day test at Valencia aboard Ducati Corse GP9.

The first session of a two-day test got underway in hot and sunny conditions in Valencia today, a day full of new things for the Ducati Marlboro Team. At close to 11.00 in the morning, when the garage doors were opened, the spotlights were all focused on Nicky Hayden and on his ‘Stars and Stripes’ liveried Ducati, which had its first run at the Ricardo Tormo circuit.

Hayden, like new team-mate Casey Stoner, carried out his first run of the day with the GP8 before turning his attention firmly on the GP9. The American continually improved his rhythm throughout the course of the day, stopping the clock with a best lap of 1′33.960.

Stoner, immediately at ease aboard the GP9, as he was during his first and only test of the machine in the post-race test in Catalunya, set the fastest time of the day, dipping under the circuit best lap record that he himself set in Sunday’s Valencia GP.

Click the photograph of GP9 to download Ducati Corse GP9 wallpaper

Casey Stoner - best lap 1′32.464 (54 laps): “The feelings from this first day of testing in Valencia with the GP9 have been definitely good. We tried many things, some worked well, others less so, but this is normal because the bike is quite different in its characteristics and in its reactions compared to the GP8. We still have other things to try but the feeling is already excellent and in fact we were able to lap consistently quickly. I am very happy with the behavior of the engine that seems to me to be more progressive and predictable. The bike is more stable in braking which is really saying something because the GP8 was already very efficient from this point of view. We have to work more on the rear set-up but the potential is good, it is just a question of finding the right set-up. Also as far as the tyres are concerned I am satisfied, above all the specification that we used this morning, with which we were able to maintain an excellent rhythm for thirty laps. A good start from this point of view. I think that Nicky is content with his first day at Ducati, he continued to improve during the day and I am sure that with a few more days with the bike he will find himself in good shape.”

Nicky Hayden - best lap 1′33.960 (79 laps): “It has been a very intense day and full of many things to test and to understand, but it was exactly as I expected it to be. I did just one run with the GP8 and then I switched completely to the GP9. Obviously there is a lot of work to do but I am happy, it was a good day that has allowed me to understand that the bike has good potential and, more than anything, I can say that I really enjoyed myself. This first day has given me an appreciation of the bike and the team. One of the things that really impressed me the most was the acceleration. I found myself pretty comfortable on the bike, and I really didn’t make a lot of changes to levers and handlebars. We have not even changed a lot the settings; we have just made some small changes, some mapping settings, a couple of tyres, in order to try and understand the direction of the bike and to feel comfortable on it”.
