Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) is planning to launch motorcycles in the premium segment (super bikes and cruisers) in India and is currently in talks with British motorcycle manufacturer Triumph and Italian motorcycle manufacturer, Moto Guzzi.
The two wheeler arm of M&M, Mahindra Two Wheelers is also planning to introduce 110-125cc motorcycles, followed by motorcycles in the premium segment.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Anoop Mathur, President, Two Wheeler Sector, M&M said, “The mass motorcycle is being developed `ground up‘ by M&M together with Italy based Engines Engineering and Taiwan’s Sanyang Industry Co Ltd (SYM). The premium bike will be a collaborative effort as the branding and image associated with it, is important.”
Mahindra Two Wheelers currently has three scooters in its portfolio (Duro, Rodeo and Flyte) and had started selling them in September last year and since then has managed to sell 7000 scooters on average every month with January raking in 10,000 units.
