Yamaha YZF R15 launched!
Written by: Yogesh June 12th, 2008Yamaha has kept its promise and has launched the Yamaha YZF R15 today and now that it is launched, we bring to you the full specification and features of one of the most anticipated launches of 2008.
Engine
Liquid-cooled: First India-made model with cooling method in the Indian market! Liquid-cooled engines provide stable performance, reduce vibrations, and offer a high quality ride.
One characteristic of YZF-R15’s new engine is that it is liquid-cooled. The engine is surrounded by a water jacket in which coolant liquid circulates to cool the engine. While this method is widely used in automobiles and large capacity motorcycles, there are very few examples of motorcycles of this class due to increased weight from components such as radiators. YZF-R15 uses a special compact and lightweight aluminum radiator and a body design that utilizes airflow for heat dissipation. This has enabled us to create a lightweight, compact body while retaining its stable performance.
The benefits of using this method include stable performance during long-distance, high-speed riding and hill climbing. A liquid-cooled engine does not need heat-dissipating fins and therefore the engine is able to deliver its best performance without being affected by temperature. Additionally, because the head and cylinder are enclosed in a water jacket, mechanical noise from the engine is reduced dramatically.
The newly developed engine delivers agile riding performance, and excellent performance on straight stretches of road as well as on winding roads. YZF-R15 also delivers excellent environmental performance. These traits are a must for an “urban supersport.” The ride is unprecedented in terms of both excitement and quality.
DiASil Cylinder: The DiASil Cylinder was born from YAMAHA’s world-class aluminum die casting technology.
DiASil Cylinders are all-aluminum cylinders made by YAMAHA’s proprietary aluminum die casting technology. An aluminum alloy with 20% silicon content is used to create a very hard, reliable cylinder surface, making conventional iron sleeves obsolete. As a result, the entire cylinder can be made of aluminum, a better conductor of heat, which means the cylinder delivers better heat dissipation and less weight. (Aluminum’s heat conductivity is 3.1 times that of iron.)
YZF-R15 is equipped with this all-aluminum cylinder called the DiASil Cylinder and a forged piston, the same type of piston used in YAMAHA’s supersport bikes. The fact that both the piston and cylinder of YZF-R15 are all-aluminum ensures excellent heat dissipation, eliminates heat-induced engine power loss, and helps improve fuel efficiency. The DiASil Cylinder is given a special surface treatment to prevent oil evaporation from the cylinder’s surface and improve oil consumption. The cylinder also has excellent hardness and is considerably resistant to wear compared to conventional iron sleeves.
Additionally, the piston is made in a forging process, the optimum way of achieving lightweight designs. The reciprocating mass with the forged piston is approximately 20% less ( according to Yamaha test ) than with an engine of the same displacement fitted with a conventional cast aluminum piston. Resulting in an invigorating feeling when revving up.
Conventional pistons are typically made in a casting process where molten aluminum is cast in a mold. YAMAHA developed its proprietary “controlled forging technology” in 1997, which enables mass production of forged aluminum pistons. These pistons have been used in sport models such as the R series. The same manufacturing process was used to develop YZF-R15. Forged pistons retain the excellent strength of aluminum alloys because the metallurgic matrix of aluminum is not affected during the fabrication process. Therefore, the piston can be made lighter and thinner.
YZF-R15 is packed with state-of-the-art technology that is used in the world’s supersport bikes.
Fuel Injection: Fuel injection is used to ensure excellent fuel efficiency as well as environmental friendliness.

The two components of the fuel injection mechanism used in YZF-R15, a) the sensors that gather information on the engine’s operation, and b) the fuel supply system that supplies gasoline, have both been designed to be lightweight and simple. The sensor component uses only 4 sensors (Red blinking points) to gather large amounts of information relating to engine operations, which is sent to a small 26-pin ECU, which in turn calculates the optimum fuel supply. The fuel supply component consists of a small, fuel pump, modularized regulator and filter, and a small injector, all of which come together to enable a lightweight, compact form. The injector injects finely atomized spray of fuel through 6 hole type injectors.
In order to maximize the efficiency of the fuel injector, which injects the optimum amount of fuel for different amounts of intake air, YZF-R15 is equipped with a large 3-liter air cleaner. The duct area of the intake duct was designed optimally to optimize the flow of intake air.
Additionally, the use of a 4-valve combustion chamber (a combustion chamber with 2 intake and exhaust valves each) has allowed designers to layout the spark plug at the center of the combustion chamber for better flame propagation. This also increases the total valve area relative to the 2-valve chambers for improved intake/exhaust efficiency (volumetric efficiency). YZF-R15 is fitted with a hemispherical 4-valve combustion chamber, a configuration that allows intake and exhaust valves to be laid out in the smallest size possible.
In addition, the intake and exhaust valve angles have been kept small to achieve optimum combustion chamber configuration. We also aimed at minimizing the surface area/volume ration (S/V ratio) in the combustion chamber, which is key to improving fuel efficiency. In conjunction with the fuel injection system, this combustion chamber contributes to comfortable riding during long-distance rides as well as during medium to high-speed riding.
YZF-R15’s engine delivers excellent response, fuel economy, is environmentally friendly and a comfortable ride.
Chassis
Deltabox Frame: The frame, which forms the basis for riding comfort and handling performance, is a Deltabox frame which delivers superior rigidity balance.
This frame was designed to provide the best balance in longitudinal, lateral, and torsional rigidity. The synergy created by optimizing each dimension delivers a solid riding feel as well as comfort and agile riding performance.
The Deltabox frame was commercialized based on the experience and know-how accumulated through YAMAHA’s involvement in Moto GP since the early 1980s. This type of frame is currently used in YAMAHA’s R series of sport models. The engine is mounted on rigid supports; one on the head side and two on the case side; so that the engine itself becomes a structural member contributing to body strength and rigidity. The engine’s low vibration makes rigid supports possible, ensuring low vibrations and excellent balance of rigidity. Torsional rigidity refers to the frame’s resistance to deformation when a twisting force is applied to the pivot with the frame’s head pipe held in place.
Linked type Monocross suspension: YZF-R15 is equipped with a linked type monocross suspension that delivers a comfortable ride and a cushioning performance that is less prone to bottoming out. In particular, it reduces annoying “sinking” when riding tandem.
The linked monocross suspension consists of a link mechanism sandwiched between the rear arm and cushion unit to create changes in the lever ratio based on the lever effect. When the shock absorber is almost fully extended, the lever ratio is high and therefore the spring is soft, and the damper works softly as well. As the shock absorber strokes in, the lever ratio gradually decreases and the spring rate increases. Eventually, when it is nearly fully stroked in, the lever ratio becomes small and the spring becomes hard and strong. The damper also becomes hard. By making changes to the lever ratio in this way, we were able to achieve soft riding comfort as well as excellent damping under intense load conditions.
The optimization of the frame and rear arm rigidity of the Deltabox Frame combined with the effects of the linked type monocross suspension achieve good riding comfort, agile handling, and turnability, hardly ever causing bottoming out.
As the heir to the YAMAHA R series, YZF-R15 has inherited the series’ agile handling performance.
Design
The “R” Design: This characteristic of motorcycles designed by YAMAHA as represented by the R series reflects the philosophy running through these models — expressing performance visually.
For example, YZF-R6 shows a strong body line that springs up in a single line from the rear axle to the pivot and then to the head pipe. This is a visual expression of the straight shape of the Deltabox frame. These elements are a visual expression of “frame rigidity.” Viewed from the side, the shape created by the side panel and the upper surface of the tank creates an impression of the center of gravity shifting to the front tire. This is a visual representation of how the front tire grips the road in its sporty running performance. Needless to say, YZF-R1, with its athletic build, is also a visual expression of performance. A characteristic of the R series is that, when you view the machine, you get a sense of its concept and performance.
This philosophy has been fully transmitted to YZF-R15. An important point to note is that this motorcycle is not a scaled-down version of YZF-R1 or YZF-R6. YZF-R15’s design is based on having an excellent engine cooling method.
The shape of the cowling around the radiator area was determined so that the shapes of the air intake area and the rear outlet area where the air is scooped out are optimized to improve radiator efficiency. As for the outlet area, the mid-cowl area was designed using sculpturing 3D methods to create a three dimensional shape with a sense of volume. This resulted in an outlet area through which air is directed outwards with minimal resistance. We were able to present the new R series also in terms of design, and we have been able to maximize the performance of the liquid cooled engine, which will be a first for the Indian market.
When viewed from the front, it gives a sense of volume that seems well beyond its 150cc displacement. This does not simply mean that it is voluminous, but that it is grounded in the Art of Engineering which transforms function into art.
Humachine Technology: A sharp form that cuts through air. Inheriting the “R series” gene.
YZF-R1 and YZF-R6 are equipped with under cowls that are based on the image of a diffuser, to give them the best form for aero-management. These are not cowls for simply enclosing the engine, but forms composed of blade surfaces that actively control airflow. This spirit has been directly inherited by YZF-R15.
“Harmony between rider and machine.”YAMAHA’s Humachine Technology involves studying the form of the motorcycle actually in motion with the rider on it. The R series is the embodiment of 1) wide frontal space that protects the rider, 2) easy to ride seating area that gives riders the freedom of movement and allows them to steer effectively, 3) the glamorous tail treatment that takes into account the management of airflow behind the rider, and 4) a sexy racing form that brings all 3 of these elements together in a harmonious package. These characteristics have been splendidly reproduced in YZF-R15.
Additionally, the designs were developed in the same modeling room where YZF-R1 designers worked. Information was shared, ensuring that the R lineage would be transmitted. In addition, the model also incorporates a multitude of adjustments for the Indian market including seat shape that allows for tandem riding (integrated with the main seat), tandem grips that are easy to grip and also contribute to the supersport design, and a riding position that takes into account comfort, etc. In other words, YZF-R15 is characterized by a hybrid design that combines the world-class design of the “R” series with localized functions. YZF-R15 was created to lead the supersport category in India.

Hi Yogesh,
I have been following up on the R15 launch, glad to see it first in your blog. The specs are mildly disapointing, weren’t we all hoping for more impressive power figures. Anyways, it doesn’t really matter, what matters is, the technology is improving.
I have been a regular reader of your blog, commendable work here.
Thanks & regards
Surajit
Hi Surajit,
First of all thanks for the kind words.
With regards to Yamaha R15, well specifications are mildly disappointing. However we wouldn’t like to say more than that until we get the chance to test it properly. Because the power figure mentioned by all of the manufactures is at crank and what matters is amount power delivered at the rear wheel. That coupled with the fact it weighs 25-30kgs less than its competitors, should make it a potent contender for most powerful bike being currently produced in India.
Regards,
Yogesh Sarkar
Hey Yogesh,
Thanks for the reply. I can’t wait for a ride report now. Although it will fare much better than the current 150s, I wonder how it’s going to stack up against the P220 and the Karizma.
What do you guys think about the pricing, personally I think they priced it quite high. 80 - 85k on road would have made choosing this bike a no-brainer. 1 lakh plus would force people to reconsider the P220 or the Karizma. Better technology costs more money, but have yamaha built a convincing package? We’ll have to wait and see.
Then again it also depends on how well it rides, and as you rightly mentioned the weight factor and the different character of the engine might just tip the scales.
Thanks
Surajit
Surajit you are right about the pricing, however when we take into consideration that Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi costs Rs.85,000 and Hero Honda Karizma is priced at Rs.72,000 (both Ex. Showroom Delhi), then the R15 doesn’t look that costly. Especially considering that at least on paper, Yamaha YZF R15 has better instrumentation and technology, the only question right now is, will that translate into real world advantage or not.
hai yogesh n surajit…im in Indonesia, here here we have naked version of R15, we called VIXION…
this vixion only have 15 PS, so less 2 PS…but we already past the CBR 150 in supporting race Indoprix (official race in Indonesia)..
so i hope u dont disapoointed with R15 power, u will find another power inside R15…
regards,
Vixion
It’s really very much disappointing to see the features and price of the bike. It’s not the same YAMAHA was talking about…It wud be a revolutionary launch but people’ll hardly go for it.
Like many of us, I have been clued to the biking scene in India for years, there is an overwhelming need for a larger capacity modern bike. We have all debated about market sustainability, blind apathetic manufacturers. The bitter disappointment is that, the R15 is nowhere close to what we need. Coming to the pricing, we are value-for-money society, why on earth we would pay 25% more money from the current benchmark.
R15 Great!! What we want Yamaha to do now, is : (1) glue two r15 engines together, make a 300cc in-line two, (2) sort out the chasis bit, increase the tyre profile, keep the monoshock & clip-ons, junk the fairings and sell it for to 1.4 to 1.6 lakhs. Delicious.
Hi all,
Thanks for your feedbacks on this R15 i was watching allmost all the blogs for this R15 but after watching Yamaha’s Promo of R15 Yesterday i booked one for my Self as it will rock on Indian Roads Especially on Andhra Roads as we dont have Great & Wide Roads here. I do Agree the price is little higher side but still it is Yamaha the besat brand for Sports Bikes.
Sunil Naidu.K.
i m sure this bike will bring a revolution in age of indian biking which was started by bajaj pulsar 6 yrs ago and now heading towards yamaha and then kawasaki
i’m not sure if it is the way to go for yamaha. it’ll b great if it is a success. fz15 will b the one selling more than the r15
Hey fellas…!!!!!
Don’t let your imaginations flow with the 17PS thing.
I know it’s a bit disappointing.
Yamaha never officially told it’ll be a 20 plus BHP machine nor did they divulge anything about the pricing.
All they promised was it’ll be the bike to beat when launched, and will be commercially on sale this June.
And they have delivered on the promise.
One more thing!
Heard that its performance will blow you away.
Nothing even comes close. 200… Zma for instance….
believe me, these words were uttered by a professional racer who had spent quite some astride the bike on a track.
Dude….
Don’t worry.
leave aside the 17PS thing.
Look at its real world performance.
Let’s wait for complete road tests and stuff.
Good luck!!!!!
I think I’ll wait for the test reports in the magazines - before I spend a lakh on this bike . Bit disappointed about the power , suspected the price, and like the looks . Am going to the yamaha dealer for a test drive .
Vixion that is certainly comforting to know, since the R15 is rated at 17Ps, we would certainly have to compare it with the performance of Vixion and see how it fares.
Harpreet I can understand your disappointment, however from the feedback I have managed to gather, it seems like it is certainly the new performance benchmark for Indian Bikes.
Surajit Amen
Sunil you seem to be quite a fan of Yamaha, yes pricing is a little steep but it does have the goodies as well.
Ken Yup we are all waiting for Bajaj to release the baby ninja and other companies to join in the race for VFM power bike.
Gearhead Surely a bike which is priced lower should sell more, however if sale was the only criteria then Honda Cub and Hero Honda CD100 would take the crown for the best bikes.
Aravind We waiting to get the test ride of the r15, lets see how much if it is true.
Doc I am not quite sure the r15 is currently available for test rides.
Hi,
First, I had plans of getting the apache RTR 160, but now I have decided to get this hot piece of metal.
I just came to India, for my summer vacations. (LOL), and want to have this for my 2 months (Hopefully best spent 2 months of my life.)
I might plan on taking this with me, to Norway. Not sure if it would be possible. But worth a try asking customs, and the manufacturer for any required bike conversions.
Thanks.
The price 1lakh is xtreamely high 4 just 150cc displacement bike.
it may be a major drawback for this R15.
Hi All,
I am little bit Bewildered with this new R15 before I hire it. Need to wait and watch for more feedbacks.
Adarsh Naidu
I was waiting for this byke from long time but It is really disappointing 17Ps in 1Lac this is unfair i will be looking for other options.
Joining in for first time.
No doubt this bike is bringing revolution to Indian biking industry & looks very good, Surely will be a good performer - I have seen this being tested on highway. But I would rather like to wait for the Ninja250 & keep saving for that one. Any Idea when is it being launched - I see complete silence from Bajaj & the auto journalists!!!! Why these people do not plan for assembling 400-600cc bikes ??
well 17 bhp might be less, but the real beauty is that the engine of the yzf r15 is controlled by an ecu (or ecm) which on remapping will make the engine put out 32 bhp and the best part yamaha themselves will offer this remap
i wanto yamaha r15 will launch 200 cc next time.plz
i like this bike wooooooooooooooooooooooooo
hi
i glad to see YZF R-15 but i am not truly impressed , looks of bike is great & international but i think it is underpowred . it should atlest been 250 cc with an 30 bhp .
Sukhdeep singh
Hi It’s a big dissapointment to see the power factor in r15.Innitially iwas planning to buy 1 but now it seems foolish to spend a lakh on this 150cc machine
Hey all,
you guys are unhappy eith the performance figures…….you will be until you test ride it…..
when i heard that it was 17ps even i was disappointed when i test rode it it was really good…..good enoughg pick up n performance…it can definately beat p220 n zma in all terms…..it has a top whack of 140kmph as per the bike india magazine review…..
so don’t worry about anything…..go 4 this bike if you’re looking out for RAW performance!!!
now if you ask me why p220 n zma could not make it ot the performance of R15…….the answer is its b’coz of the weight/power ratio……
Yeah thats what i said
P220 weighs 136.00 kgs…
ZMA weighs around 150 kgs…..
Yamaha R15 weighs just 120kgs….
WHen you try to allocate the weight/power ratio…..that is the BHP per kg
R15’s BHp is higher when compared to p220 n ZMA….this makes it better in terms of performance….
Thanks
Hello sunil naidu if u read me and if u have owned this bike.
Please tell me its mileage and how much it is stable during braking it at 100plus speed with such thin tyres.
Plz reply me
Thanks
Vijay
Hi yogesh bike is definetly very good but what do you say about the width of the tyres.
Would the bike will be stable during braking at high speed?
And don’t you think that rear should be more catchy
Plz reply
Vijay, more than the size, it is compound of the tyre which matters. Good quality soft compound tyres will offer better braking performance than 10-20% fatter tyres with hard compound. The tyres that come with Yamaha R15 are more than capable of handling that much power and unless you are planning to race it on track or want fatter tyres for look, there shouldn’t be any need to upgrade.
With regards to the rear of Yamaha R15, personally I do feel it could have been better.
hi,
saw the r15,the tyres look puny as if affected by polio, could be better with wider tyres,it is pricey for the package offered , cant see it doing big numbers,
hi tiger,
well the bike which has been launched by yamaha is too expensive for a 150cc i guess. well shall be waiting for some reall great launches to come. Since it has already mentioned for the hondas 800cc to be launched here. well can anyone tell me what would be the price tag they would be putting for a 800cc.
hi yogi!
what’ll be its top speed?
I think you have designed such a beautiful machine combining the combinations of the old rzs with the ypvs tech but i feel you should have brougt it out in the 250 and 400 versions instead of the 150.
well i just took the delivery of my r15 yesterday night (30th June 2008)(Bangalore r15 bash-garuda mall) and believe me this bike rocks ….its engine is smooth and the compression is great …i have already ridden close to 60 kms and she gave me close to 41kms to the litre, since the the bike has to be run in i haven’t revved more than 6000rpm in each gear but anyone can easily make out the power building up close to 5000rpm ….the gearshifts are smooth and overall bike feels great….it is to be noted that the are no flat spots in acceleration and the bike feels very comfortable even at low revs ….all of us who took the delivery yesterday were given a fantastic time by Yamaha as we given r15 t shirts and a high tea was organized at chancery pavilion hotel wherein the official launch ceremony took place in Bangalore.we were given an interactive session with top Yamaha honchos from the r&d and other divisions of Yamaha …..speaking to them gave us a lot info on how good this bike is and we were shown some exclusive videos and vital stats and comparisons….finally coming back to the bike …it lives up to everyone’s expectations once they ride it as i found out and reminds me of the the Yamaha stressing the pride of ownership at the launch function as this bike has been designed by the same people who designed all the YZF R series …this bike is special and it feels really special….(also to be noted is the heads it turns …people throng around it even at signals)…finally it gives me great joy to say Yamaha is back… anybody wanting to buy it need not think twice its money well spent.period.
bakwas bike…..just waste of money…………i just took the delivery of my r15 yesterday night and wasnt confortable even in low revs….engine is hard..no speed and useless mileage,,over all the body is really small, whai to say about the width of the tyres,But I would rather like to wait for the karizma R1000cc& keep saving for that one. The price 1lakh is xtreamely high 4 just 150cc displacement bike.wait for good bikes
YZF R15
The front ‘n’ rear disc ,17bhp, 6-speed transmisson, 8500rpm, Chameleon headlamp, mono suspension with nice ground clearence totally race spirit.

After a long time roar the sliencer’s stingently
i like the bike but my brother is telling that this bike is not launched in india so ane give a reply 2me its anand here
hi..
R15….
Looks r killng as they are very similr to R1….
i hope its ride vl b as cool as its looks…
bt the price is too high…
it would b affordabl if it vl b around 80,000…
andt thr ws no information about its average..
i wana knw abut its average…
The Bike is launched in all major cities on the first week of july…
Average of the bike is around 40kmpl…
Looks like Yamaha has done it again: foot in the mouth. I wonder how many will consider paying in excess of Rs. 1L for a 150 cc bike in India. Looks like after the RX100 Yamaha have never really been able to get their act together. Most of their introductions did not really take off the way Pulsars did for Bajaj. And this YZF R15 could have done with a 200-250 cc engine and a price tag in the range of Rs. 80K. May be Bike manufacturers should now go in for renting out bikes. We the bikers would love to drive different models every month!
hi took the test ride of r15 today. well the bike is nice steady and good the looks are very good for this kind of a segment. took her to the speed of 120 here at allahabad. went right in the morning since the owner had already called me up to see the machine since he had to deliver the bike to the customer for whome the machine had come. It was a blue color and the bike was looking very hot I am just thinking what would be the black one look like since they are only going to produce with 2 colors.
the bike is very steady and nice comfortable to ride on. Gives u a great feel of r1. nice looking good work done on the machine. I asked the manager who was present there how much would be the front fearing cost would be for and the reply he gave me was a shock for me since he said that it would cost u to 40,000rs. i said what the ….. well lets see how u all like the machine.
Hi Vijay,
Sorry for a late reply. I was enjoying the bike all these days as my bike is the 1st bike in Andhra Pradesh except hyderabad.coming to your questions the bike gave me a mileage of 45 Kms at an average speed of 65Km/H i expect it will give 40Km’s in city and Braking system is very excellent as i tried it at a Speed of 110 KMPH speed, I felt it might be a Anti skid formulla.
This is my Opinion on this beautiful Sexy Blue baby.
Sunil Naidu.
Dear Brothers of Bike Yamaha yzf R 15 is the best bike on Indian roads
as of now.And for the coming years Yamaha is and would be the leading
biker.About R 15 ‘6 gears’as of now no other bike has it.Its the atmost
bike of its class you would really feel the real racing spirit at the
top gears above 5000 rpm the best smooth bike ever in Indian market
available with a huge pick up, just withdraw the throttle and you could
feel the real speed master in you.it has 4 valves and a single spark
plug at its centre which rules out twin sparks. Its a dito of R1
Yamaha.Liquid cooled engine.17 Bhp which could be tuned by service
people to 20-22 bhp in ECU for those who dont care of mileage. The tyres
are the best for compared to any other bike in market.tube less
designed for R15 with special grip a sort of cutting and gumming to
roads at speeds of above 80.have you ever heard of anybike cornering at
100 without shifting gears down.it gives the atmost cornering you
should try it for they are the best for cornering and mileage.seen the
ad of yamaha r 15 its the same you could tried with those tires.no

extra money for those who need, company itself has made them, the very
best.to be driven and performed.R15 riders enjoy the ride you are the
BEST!
hi
I think yamaha is really launched a superr bike for India .Dont think for the power ( 17 bhp , 150cc ), if you compare with karizma and P-220 , both are more bhp and cc but the basic point of yamaha is Liqiud cooled engine with FI technology and 6 Gears. That means yamaha givivg all the super bike features to YZF R15. YZF R15 is more power full because of liquid cooled engine.
But still i am little bit confused , is really YFZ R15 value for money ?????????????
YZF R15 - 0 to 60 in just 3 seconds( Top speed 145 km/h)
Karizma - 0 to 60 in 3.8 Seconds ( Top Speed 130 Km/h)
P-220 - 0 to 60 in 3.4 Seconds ( Top Speed 130 Km/h)
That means YZF R15 is better in Speed and Velocity.
REAR TO BE STILL MODIFIED, ESPECIALLY TYRE’S.
dear friend
as I have heard technology of R1 and r15 is similiar ,what are the similiarties
I would like to know the technical superiorties of YZFR1 998cc
anil baral
Nepal
Good ‘Q’ ?
The aerodynamics, body wt, 6 gears transmission , Elec. fuel injection.., makes the diff..
just hold the throttle .., this bike is designed to rock.. whether it is city ‘r’ highway
karizma is good , P220 tooo , but R15 stunning…
time to rock…., choose wisely
The engine is packed with race DNA…..,
I appreciate each ‘n’ every Yamaha Engineer who worked to make such a beautiful combination. A small mini machine ( A master piece ) pioneer technology…

hi i m happy i want to say that will this bike beat karizma? i m not sure about this ,it is too early to say.r15 is not so big like karizma in size ,it looks like a small bike
Whether it beats or not that depends on you not the bike, wheels design is according to body / wt.
So, if you are thinking about cc then .. it is like bigger the wheel > cc..
thanks & regards

Hi all
me to am waiting to test drive this supposed super bike..was waiting to own it…but i guess the pricing is too high for it’s class considering that the kawasaki ninza 250cc is priced at 2.5 lak and the styling and performance of the 2 are unparalled …so in my opinion the yamaha is no where near to capturing the market share it was planning to with such specs and pricing
I owned Yamaha R 15 and I am totally disappointed from its performance because it does not have proper grip on road and its rear tyre slips alot and its pick up is not also up to the mark
hi amit I am planning to buy the bike but ur opinion confused me.
Tell me truth.
Sunil naidu says it is very stable during braking at a speed of 110 km/hr
He also says pickup is rocking.
But ur opinion is against the bike.
what is the price of Yamaha Yzf excatly?
Friends to avoid such confusions have test ride and do what you like..
I think that is the only solution.
Hi all,
Exact price is 1,01,750/- in Gurgaon. (one lac, one thousand, seven hundred and fifty) for more details you can call Gurgaon Yamaha showroom at 9999200000 (I have got from yamaha official website)
Thanks
Anil
It’s very good looking bike.and like sporty look.but it’s price is very high.according to 149 cc.pulsar 220 is better than this.this bike is only for showroom not for road.
wts da top speed of yamaha r15?
Its the best of 150cc category. And i hope yamaha for asucess with this bang.
hi all,,
i own both of the bykes regarded as best in indian market 2day….i.e. P220 n R15,,,,but still find p220 as better ,,, it is much more comfortable , driveable , meaner.
r15 loses the way coz it lacks the sports byk feel,,,the noise etc.. for which one wud love spendin a lac….150 cc is enough as compared to other bykes but still 200 cc was reqd
Hi sanchit plz tell me about comparision between p220 and r15 for pickup and speed as u owned both.
Yes I am agreed with u in case of comfort as P220 give somewhat straight seating posture.
I have a p220 should I spend 1 lac for r15.
Hi guys, read your comments and i must say that you know your rides well but still a lot of current zma and p220 owners who can’t actually afford a second bike immediately(assuming they just bought their bikes in june or nearby months)are crbbing about R15 ’s negative performance and stuff which is nothing but sheer jealousy, cmon guys wake up and smell the java, the R15 is not even in the league of zma and p220 its a sport bike and zma and p220 are semi fared Street bikes. If you have ever heard or visited europe or america you would realize that street bikes are not raced and comapred against true sports bike. Being a lady biker (rare species)i am really thrilled to ride this piece of engineering marvel, R15 comes with a chip which can be remapped with an ecu to give you 20-30% more power out of engine ,as R15 in its 17 ps has a higly Detuned engine which has the capability of producing more power, i already have a zma which gives 17 bhp out of a 223cc engine so just imagine a yamaha giving 17 bhp out of a 150cc engine howzzzat, after remapping it will destroy all competetion in terms of power like in other departments it already did(looks, tech etc). @amit singh who wrote on july 14 about the bike skidding and stuff, he is lying …first of all he dosen’t own an r15 coz ask any r15 owner and the bike is the most stable bike on straight road and mean corners at well even at high speeds of 100 kmph and the tyres although thin are made of soft rubber compound (yamaha in collaboration with MRF)which stick to road as if glued giving u superb traction, so guys don’t hate a prfectly good machine , yours pulsars and zma had their share of glory now let the new phenomenon take some limelight .and BTW this is not a commutors bike its a stunner sports bike , commutors excuse and go grab a CD dawn or a bajaj XCD suits u r style, this bike is for the eclusive few so let the exclusivity be there and the other thing would you prefer to be an average joe or a superstar u decide. cheers and adios
i love this bike i loveeeeeeeeeeeeee 09302240027 09329540027
hi nimisha I really loved ur comment.
I want to buy the bike but some comments on the bike here made me afraid.
I GOT a chance to drive the bike but I HAVE just drive it at a speed of 45 km/hr cause it was my senior’s bike and he did not allow me to drive fast so i could not judge the bike
but feel of driving such a good machine was great.
and I must say its handling was superb.
A good biker knows how this is…
Specially about aerodynamics
Just hold the throttle, the bike starts scattering the air.
The combustion starts with twin inlets (intake) & twin outlets (ex)
A 4-valve arrangement is effluent. The forged piston again makes the diff. as a metallurgist I can say the strength & toughness in the material is greater in forged comp. compared to casted one.
So don’t get confuse with cc,
Yamaha has always kept up with new innovation while constantly bringing it to the next
level. With liquid cooled, 4-valve FIE, YZF-R15 comes with R1 DNA.
I agree with nimisha!
So friends who are thinking to catch the YZF R-15 have it.
Thanks & regards

AS COMPARED TO BACK PORTION OF P220 OR P200 THIS BIKE IS WORST…such narrow tyres i thnk discover 135 have broader tyres than r15…yah the front is awesome n ofcourse the engine power,topo\ speed, pick is too good bt overall it lacks..n also thnk about its mileage

Does anyone know where i can get a ECU chip for the yamaha R15.
THE BIKE IS TO COOL AND SPORTY .TWO OF MY FRIEND WANTS TO BUY YAMAHA R 15.BUT ITS TO COSTLY FOR MIDDLE CLASS PEOPLE .
Hi All,
I am Vikas Shokeen, a big fan of Yamaha as a company and its products but please don’t relate my comments for R1-5 to it. I bought it on 30th June 2008 and has clocked 8,500 kms till now as I use it to commute to office instead of the car which I used before. Also I go for an out of station trip atleast once a month.
……… I have been keeping an eye on this thread from quite a long time and now I think I have ridden R1-5 enough to ask all critics of this wonderful bike to put their foot into their mouth. Its a fabulaous, miraculous bike. Its the best performance bike in India and for those who don’t know, performance is not solely a feature of power or BHP. For their information I would like to tell them that this bike has highest power-to-weight ratio in Indian bikes…….. Front and Rear disc is only a specification and does’nt tell how powerful and accurate they are……….. 120kph cruising is done at 8,000RPM, well below the redline 10,500RPM………….. riding position appears to be sporty but does’nt tell that its so comfortable that I completed Delhi-Ajmer-Pushkar-Delhi in 20 hrs (with enough time to offer prayers to Khwawja baba and Lord Brahma)…………. I did Delhi to Chandigarh (250kms) in 2hrs 45mins flat, now that what we call El-Sie (LC-Liquid Cooling)………….. above all it constantly giving me fuel economy in range of 40kpl in city and 45kpl on highways, despite my style of hard riding……
…….. and those who crib about the price, just check out the international range of any motorcycle manufacturer and you’d not be able to find such a good value for money bike ……… you pay for what you get…….. its not easy to tell how Deltabox frame improves handling, it can only be felt ………. no one will believe you when you say that you covered 150kms on Jaipur-Ajmer Expressway in less than 1 and a half hour (1hr 25mins to be precise), thats Liquid Cooling for you……..
…………… Now its upto all you guys to decide whether its the best bike or the worst bike.
Guy’s,
Can someone tell me which tyres would be best if I wish to change tyres for the R15 - I dont like the look of the existing ones - also, I know I may have to compromise on performance, but wider tyes will help improve the look.
So any suggestions please??
the best way to get milage is 2 take off the tyre from ur bike and sit at home.hwz that
mr kizza i think cycle tyre is the best. it gives more mileage and stability for ur bike.and its low cost also.
What are you going to ride a sports bike ‘or’ street bike …. then definitely…. its a worthy….!
Why don’t you guys try T 282 B Liebherr tyre for bike…. how about that ha!
Go find any race bike specs. u find only thing the smaller higher pickup … i mean speed…. - no. of revolutions per second (distance travelled by time taken) …. especially in turnings you don’t need to slow down…. a good racer know how it is … applying brakes lately without slowing down.
So, i would like to say if you ‘r’ addicted with big wheels ‘r’ else if u have not seen any ever before ‘r’ it is your habitat …. then i would like to suggest these bike are not meant for fat big wheel passional’s ….
Guys then keep dreaming …. for big fat wheels.
From some other bike manufacturer…. with heavenly bodies.
Thanx

Hi Everyone.
I am back with some more to say about Yamaha YZF R1-5.
Guys recently I completed a roadtrip on my R1-5 but no ordinary trip it was. I went from Delhi to Mumbai and completed this stretch in 23hrs and 30mins flat. Though I went on to reach Pune but those 24hrs between Delhi and Mumbai are always going to be special for me.
I did this trip solely to test my own and my R1-5’s endurance in which as per my own expectations, we both passed. For those who are not aware, distance between Delhi and Mumbai is around 1,450kms. These 1,400 odd kms included every type of road, straight highway, twisty ghat road, the worst highway (one in the making between Vadodara and Surat) and almost everything. I would say R1-5 handled each one of these with aplomb.
Though when I started my trip from Delhi, I was’nt sure that whether I would be able to achieve what I thought but I kept on making short term goals and achieved them in the end.
This news is also published in one of the most reputed auto mags of the country, AUTOCAR India. Those who have any doubts about my claim can check it on page no. 137.
Coming back to the way R1-5 performed was really amazing and pretty extra-ordinary for a bike for such a small capacity. I rode for hours and hours continuously at the speed in excess of 110kph which most 150cc bikes find difficult to achieve, let alone cruising at that speed.
I Would not be able to explain the tour further a its very difficult for me to pen down my words here but if somebody wants to know further can definitely contact me through e-mail at my id “shokeenvikas@rediffmail.com”.
Thanks to all
Vikas Shokeen

this bike looks good from far…well i ride a hornet 250cc 4 cylinder..in dubai…i hav ridden mostly all bikes in india..but man the hornet is in a class of its own…its a crazy bike..i give hard time to r1’s and cbr’s in traffic…they just hate it……but i just love it…
Can we compare R 15 with FZ 16 ? because both bikes are 150 CC. But when it comes to riding in city which one is best? I heard that FZ 16 has been tuned with low end torque so it is more suitable for city…
