Bajaj Auto to exit scooter segment

Bajaj Auto, once known for its scooters in India, is now planning to exit completely from the scooter segment, by the end of this fiscal year.

Speaking to the reporters at the launch of Bajaj Pulsar 135 LS, Bajaj Auto’s Managing Director, Rajiv Bajaj said, “We will exit the scooter market because we don’t see much sense in it. If we are to be a motorcycle specialist, we cannot make scooters. The scooters did not sell according to our expectations. We are making hardly 1,000 scooters a month now and mostly for exports. Now our focus is on motorcycles.”

Bajaj Auto currently manufactures only one scooter, called Kristal DTS-i and managed to sell only 258 units of it in November, out of which 104 scooters were sold outside India.
